We created our part of this Toyota Advert using 72 cameras on a 180 degree rig, filming overnight in Shorditch London.

About this project

Working with German company 3DS and Orillo, we were asked to create part of a car advert for Toyota Europe, using our bullet time rig.

Taking over an entire area of Shoreditch London, with a street closed off, set up a 72 camera rig on an 8-meter radius curve in during the afternoon in 4hrs and had it ready for the night time shoot.

Rig Position 1

The first position was to capture the male model walking along the street, with very little light. Each set of photos was captured and previewed to the director and 1stAD in less than a minute of the shot. This allowed them to see very quickly if the model was in the correct position, his step was in the right place, the light was correct etc.

Rig Position 2

We then needed to move the entire rig to the other side of the courtyard, but unfortunately, a lot of Ambassadors and very wealthy people lived in the area, who had all arrived home, driven through the police barriers and parked their cars on the set. So we had to lift the entire rig with 10 guys, over the top of the cars to position it ready for the last two shots, to allow the rest of the video to be filmed without our equipment in the way of the first position. Gutted we didn’t get any footage of us carrying it over the cars, as that would probably have been as good as the advert! ?

In the second position, we filmed smoke coming from the grate, which we pumped in using a smoke machine and filmed the female model walking through the rig.

Client: 3DS & Orillo

Category: Production

How many cameras?

We used 72 Cameras with our 8m diameter frame for this, along with 8 computers and custom wiring systems.

Software Systems

For this project we used our Bullet Time Software for the previews, allowing the production team and directors to see the results within a few seconds of the trigger being fired.

Location

This was filmed in Shorditch London, closing off residential streets for a full evening and into the early morning.

What we created?

We created 24 shots for the first shoot of the male, 18 shots of the smoke from the grate and 8 shots of the female walking at 2am!
